Orange You Glad It’s Fruit And Veggies Month?

Did you know that September is National Fruit And Veggies Month?

We all know that fruits and vegetables should be a part of your diet, but it’s easy to forget just how much of a powerful punch they pack. Sure, your mother always told you to eat your greens, but mixing it up with an assortment of fruits and vegetables guarantees you’ll get all the nutrients your body needs.

Make the most of this month’s fruit and veggie focus by incorporating these in-season choices into your diet.

Apples

Apples work great in desserts with a little cinnamon and sugar, but keep it healthy by adding them to salads.

Apples are rich in antioxidants and dietary fiber. Plus, they may even help reduce the risk of diabetes, heart disease and even cancer.

Cabbage

Spice up your typical Taco Tuesday with a zesty cabbage slaw or use cabbage leaves instead of shells for a low-carb option.

Cabbage is a great source of calcium, magnesium and iron. It’s part of the cruciferous vegetable family (alongside cauliflower and broccoli), which are known for their outrageous health benefits. Not only that, but it’s also one of the most economical vegetables to stock and cook, based on price per edible cup.

Corn

Hang on to summer just a little bit longer—corn is still in season. Great on the grill, in salads or added to soups, who doesn’t love this September staple?

Corn is said to help protect the body against both cancer and antioxidants. While many people are concerned about corn’s health benefits, an ear of corn actually packs the same number of calories as an apple with only ¼ of the sugars.

So have fun this month, and get your veggie on!
